Business as usual at Wheatlands Golf Course

Following the away victory at The Royal Jersey Golf Club earlier in the month, Wheatlands knocked up another victory against Les Ormes on Saturday 30 April 2011.  Wheatlands Golf Club won by 6 matches to 1.

Paul Jones, with a strong performance winning 7 & 6 in the lead paring, lead his team to a resounding and well deserved victory.  This performance topped off what has been a great month for Paul in all competitions.

In the last round against The Royal Jersey, Paul produced a fantastic fight back in the anchor leg, coming back from 3 down with 3 holes to play, to win it on the 19th hole.  This ensured a Wheatlands victory by just one match winning 4 to 3.

Then on the 23rd of April, Paul produced the round of his life at Wheatlands which broke the amateur course record.  Not only did he gross par (a feat only matched by professionals in the past), but Paul notched up his third “hole in one” on the most difficult hole on the course – hole 4.

Club Captain Trevor Allen commented “Paul is a great player who handles the pressure very well.  Wheatlands is a tough course, as some of the holes rank amongst the toughest par 3s in the Channel Islands.  Our achievements as a club show how much Wheatlands has come along in the last 18 months.”

Wheatlands beat La Moye 4 -3 at home in this competition last year.  The win against Les Ormes sets up a rematch against La Moye in the Jersey final.  The winner will represent Jersey in the Channel Islands final later in the year.
